Sports require tremendous athletic ability and skill, the best time to prepare and progress an athletes abilities is the off season. A true athlete actually does not have an off season, he/she has their competition season then after that they have an "off season" which should be used to prepare and get better for the next season. Ex. if a lineman in football was tiring towards the end of the game, he needs to work his strength and conditioning during off season so he can last the whole game with no difference in performance from start to finish. Strength and conditioning is important for any sport, from football, baseball, softball, basketball, track, etc. Strength translates into explosion, the more explosion an athlete has the more likely he/she is to attaining a higher level of performance. And conditioning isn't just running, sprinting and working drills, it's all that plus proper technique, and the ability to perform at a high level from first quarter to possibly overtime and the level of play does not drop off. The competition isn't won on the field, it is won in the preparation before you set one foot on the playing surface.
